The challenge

Founded in 2014 by business coach, Paula Wingate, Influential Minds empower frustrated and burnt-out business owners to boost their profits, achieve their ambitions, and become more productive.

During the busy start-up years of the business, Paula recognised that professional accounting advice was necessary. The relationship between accountant and business owner is one built on trust, but this was not Paula’s experience. In a very short space of time, Paula had worked with two different firms. She was never certain on whether her business was financially compliant, communication was poor, and it was often her impression that her small business was not prioritised by a large accountancy firm. Forward planning was lacking, along with frequent check-ins, and as a result, Paula encountered nasty billing surprises at financial year-end.

It was time for change – Paula needed an accountant she could rely on; one that would support her while growing her business.

As much as you think you can do your business accounts yourself, investing in a professional is definitely worth it. You can’t put a price on peace of mind but you can put one on your time - what takes Shona an hour to do would take me three. This means I have more time to spend doing what I do best.

With Kerr Accountancy, I don’t feel that there’s a pecking order for Shona’s attention; she makes us feel looked after.

The solution

Unlike Paula’s previous accountants, Kerr Accountancy promised value for money and to be available to her business. This personal attention along with a reassurance of no billing surprises has allowed for a trusting, two-way relationship.

Kerr Accountancy fill the role of Financial Partner and work with Paula on everything from weekly bookkeeping to monthly reports, as well as quarterly VAT returns and annual year-end compliance. And because of regular check-ins, Paula isn’t drowning in paperwork and year-end accounting is no longer a mammoth, time-consuming exercise.

Kerr Accountancy produce monthly management accounts for Paula, allowing her to better manage her business finances. They highlight areas that require attention, offer advice on purchases and outgoings that can be streamlined. A recent example of this being a move from leased premises to working from home.

Paying for her compliance work by monthly standing order provides great peace of mind for Paula – fees are manageable, and she avoids a large year-end bill.

The result

The biggest benefit of working with Kerr Accountancy for Paula is less stress and more time.

She operates her business with peace of mind without the pressure and worry about accounting deadlines. Accounts are more organised, deadlines are clearly communicated, payments are planned, there are no more nasty year-end surprises, and no hidden costs in the monthly bill for accountancy services.

Overall, the experience is extremely positive with Kerr Accountancy treating Paula’s business than more than just a number-crunching exercise.
